First Baptist Church in Kilbourne, Louisiana exists to:
Go to all the world through ministry and missions
Grow in our faith through study and service
Give to God’s kingdom with our time and our tithes.
Our church started in 1915 when a group decided they wanted to plant a church in an area known as Kilbourne. That church is First Baptist Church and God has been using this church in this community ever since. We thank God for His blessings and the opportunity He gives us to do His work in our area. Our desire is to see the people of our community come to saving faith in the Lord Jesus Christ and to help them grow in that faith and join us as we share the good news of Jesus.
In 2015, we enjoyed our Centennial Celebration, marking 100 years of ministry in the Kilbourne community. More than 250 current and former members packed the sanctuary as we remembered different moments in the church’s history, enjoyed special guests and music, and caught up with friends young and old!
We offer a variety of programs for all ages, including a full children’s ministry slate of events, a large and active youth group, and numerous activities and other opportunities for adults of all ages.
Our Mission Statement
Our purpose as a church is to honor, glorify, and lift up the Lord Jesus Christ in all that we do. That is accomplished in our church mainly in five different ways. The first is through proclamation. This is done mainly through the preaching on Sunday mornings and evenings. We proclaim God’s word and especially the gospel of Jesus. The second way is in worship. This is accomplished mainly when we gather together as a congregation and lift our hearts together in praise to the Lord Jesus. It can be accomplished also individually at those times when God impresses it on our hearts due to a great sense of His presence. Third, we accomplish it by discipleship. This is very similar to proclamation but differs in one main way. In proclamation the Word is shared in a manner that is to a large group of people at once. In discipleship, the group tends to be smaller and the goal shifts to understanding what is being heard. Proclamation is sharing; discipleship is sifting. A fourth way is through fellowship. These are times when our people gather together to encourage one another and share in the fact that we are family, brothers and sisters in Christ. These times are mostly church wide but can also be smaller groups such as a Sunday school class. We can know that we can have a good time around the common fact that we all belong to Christ. The last way is through evangelism. Our “job” as a church is to reach out to the lost with the gospel of Jesus Christ. Each member should be responsible for living and sharing the gospel each and every day
